Character Background: John Watson joined the military and fought in Afghanistan until injured in a battle. John was shot in the shoulder and was forced to return to London. Not only did he have an injured shoulder but also a psychosomatic limp and an intermittent tremor in his left hand. His therapist believed this to be caused by PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and required him to make a blog of his everyday life in hopes to get him rehabilitated back into life as a normal English citizen. John simply stated he didn’t think anything important happened in his life good enough to write about.
That soon changed after he met Sherlock Holmes; a sociopathic consulting detective who was in need of a flat mate. Impressed by Sherlock’s deductions and personality John agreed to look into a flat with him only after a day of knowing the other man. Their flat viewing was cut short by a case that in the end was crucial in the partnership of Sherlock and John. In a chase John had forgotten his need for his cane and ran without a limp down the streets of London and even the rooftops proving that it wasn’t PTSD but his need for action. The two moved in together and soon John began going to all the crime scenes with Sherlock, sometimes going to crime scenes by himself without the detective to talk to witnesses and police by himself. Due to their extreme trust, oddity in their partnership, people began to suspect that they were a couple. At first John protested and would immediately tell the person that they weren’t a couple but after some time of this he stopped, seeing little point to continue arguing with other people over it.
Not long after they began to work on cases together John and Sherlock were faced with a bigger threat then simple murderers, they were fighting against Jim Moriarty, a man who was the very definition of crime. At first they fought against people he manipulated or owed him money and favors before he came face to face with the two himself. He had taken John Watson, strapped him to a bomb vest, and finally came face to face with the detective.
By the end of season two John was unknowingly being used to bring Sherlock to commit suicide; Jim had a sniper trained on the doctor to make sure the detective participated in the fall. As soon as the threat was clear; it was either Sherlock die or everyone he loved died, Jim killed himself. Sherlock was left with the choice; he stood on the roof and called John, telling him to come to the street he was on. As soon as John appeared Sherlock made him witness what everyone believed to be a suicide. John was left extremely hurt and scarred by the event; he eventually had to begin therapy once again. After some time he went to visit Sherlock’s grave after realizing there was so many things he wished to have told the man he cared about, the confession giving him little comfort.
As he left the grave he had clearly regained the limp in his step and the tremor in his left hand.
Personality: In the beginning of the series John Watson had trust issues; he wasn’t talkative at all, he would rather be by himself then with anyone else and he didn’t like to talk about his problems even with a therapist. John was also stressed by the nightmares that he received whenever he slept at night. But once he trusts someone he trusts in them whole heartedly and is loyal to the point he would kill for them and take a bullet if need be. Even when offered a ridiculous amount of money from Mycroft to keep an eye on Sherlock John refused, not planning on giving an enemy information on his soon to be flat mates wear about and well-being.
John is a bit of a flirt and does enjoy companionship but has come to realize that he cannot keep a girlfriend long over the fact that he is so dedicated to Sherlock Holmes. If Sherlock hasn’t gotten them to storm out then it would be their jealousy over John’s loyalty to his flat mate, going as far as cancelling a date to keep an eye on Sherlock after Irene Adler was found supposedly dead.
John may be serious in a crime scene but when he’s domestic with Sherlock he laughs, jokes, he can be a bit sarcastic, etc. He is the calmest around him, even when angry with the detective it only lasts a short time and he is one of the few that can see the compliments through the sometimes harsh words of Sherlock.
When angry John has been known to yell, simple outbursts in which he almost immediately apologizes for but remains in an angry mood, normally just brooding. When put in a dangerous situation he can normally stay calm, if he is spooked he will end up yelling or if need be he would shoot. He also really learned to hold his tongue in the beginning of the series, he would also say things like “Fantastic” or “That was amazing.” When Sherlock spoke until he realized it made the detective uncomfortable. He is extremely brave, when meeting Mycroft Holmes he made snarky comments even when he had no idea who he was or why he had brought him to an abandoned building.
Abilities/Special Powers: Skills: John Watson is a highly skilled doctor, his practices involving him in injury and death when he was in the army. Being in the army also requires you to be well equipped and well knowledgeable on how to arm, unarm, and fire a gun. Thus making him a good shooter; he can hit a target perfectly with ease.
Third-Person Sample: John walked through the corridors of the library, eyes looking through the titles on them curiously. He was in a state of confusion; having woken up on the hard surface of the floor located in the library just minutes before when he recalled falling asleep in his room located in 221 B. His fingers scaled the covers silently; some names of the book where completely foreign to him, most covered in a thin layer of dust in which he gently took off with the tip of his index finger as he walked down the aisles.
There was a silence in the library that he had never experienced before in his life, something that he never experienced before even in the libraries at home. It wasn’t a calming silence in which he would have enjoyed instead of the news casters who were still probably outside of the flat waiting for him to appear so they could demand answers about the detective everyone considered a fraud. No, this silence wasn’t welcoming, this was-eerie…deafening to say the least.
He walked down the steps to the next floor, it was darker then the room above where he originally woke up in. The lights were flickering slightly reminding him slightly of horror movies he had seen in his lifetime. Why he continued walking to that floor was beyond him, maybe because he hoped that in the room below there may be someone that held the answers.
Instead he was once again greeted by dusty books, some sprawled out on the floor while others were perfectly within their shelves, and perfectly stacked. He went to the isles, pursing his lips as he read the titles once again; chuckling slightly at the memory of a case his friend and he had solved. It took several hours to read through books in a case on his blog he had titled simply ‘The Blind Banker’. The small smile that found its way on his face turned into a small frown at the memory of Sherlock; it had only been a couple weeks since his death and he was trying his best to get on in life with as little grieving as possible. Instead he redirected his attention to the beautifully bound books once again before feeling off as something seemed to rustle around.
A feeling of uncertainty and something waiting hung thick in the air as he froze, a wooden board creaking behind him before a soft growl seemed to echo around the room. He closed his eyes, hand fingering for a gun that normally brought him comfort before realizing that he no longer had it on his person. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath before opening them once again before eyeing a thick book from the shelf.
‘Bloody hell.’ He thought before he exhaled, calming his nerves a bit before whipping around to fight off whatever had appeared behind him. Behind him was a shape in the darkness, he couldn’t get a good look at what it was but he knew one thing for sure; it didn’t look or act friendly.
First-Person Sample: [The camera flickered on, revealing John Watson rubbing his eyes a bit tiredly. It looked as though he hadn’t slept in days. He was holding his head up by his arms trying to keep himself awake a while longer in hopes to find the answers; answers to his questions.] Bit strange this place, haven’t really been able to find any information on it in any of the books I’ve read so far…
[He had a stack of books behind him that he had already finished reading, while some were interesting none of them held the answers he had been looking for.]
Has anyone found any information what so ever? If so please contact meTthe sooner we find out what’s really going on the better.
